Neighbours, if you are reading this, the reason for the noise is 'cause I like DJing! I've always been into music and records from being about 3, so at about 16 I started using 'proper' DJ equipment to feed my fascination... I started out with some second-hand Soundlab DLP 3Rs, and a Phonic MRT-60 mixer, progressing later to Gemini PT2000s with Citronic Pro 10 mixer, then to a Behringer DX1000 mixer. From visiting such clubs as LAs in Hull, my home town, I always wanted to make the step up to owning a Cloud CXM mixer but at the time, I didn't have £2.5K to afford such things! I could only dream. From about 16 to 21, I started doing gigs at my old school, and quickly moved up to pubs and private parties. I got a job at Hull's Celebration Centre, where there were 5 function rooms & DJs. There I was a resident for 18 months, working at least Friday and Saturday nights. It was great most of the time, the only downside was lending my CD collection to one of the other DJs on a night I had off - he left them unattended when a party was setting up, and my two CD wallet cases walked containing 400 CDs :( When I left uni, I had to get a 'proper' job and this saw me moving from Hull to Sheffield, the first 18 months of which was commuting, then I bought a house here. This all put paid to DJing, I even sold all my gear to go towards the deposit on the house! I'd built up quite a collection of lighting effects, sound gear and music. Pretty soon after moving though I decided to get back into DJing, at least at home. I started building up my equipment for a home system, transforming my house. Although currently half way through decorating the house, so far there's a cinema in the extension, the kitchen/dining room is a retro diner complete with jukebox and bar, and the front room is my club :P So, my current equipment in my front room are my new pride and joy Technics SL1210s, Denon DN2000F mk III, Cloud CXM mixer, and other bits and pieces - a pair of Abstract Gladiator Revolutions and ceiling complete with revolving mirror ball! The sound and control gear is all built into a DJ booth I made with my dad, it's a curved console with decks and mixer set into the top surface. Will post some pictures when it doesn't look like a building site  |
