Global warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. We don't need to wait for governments to solve this problem: each one of us can bring an important help adopting a more responsible lifestyle: starting from little, everyday things. It's the only reasonable way to save our planet, before it is too late.

Here is a list of 50 simple things that everyone can do in order to fight against and reduce the Global Warming phenomenon: some of them are at no cost, some other require a little investment but can help you save a lot of money, in the middle-long term!

In a little-noted article printed in early August in the Armed Forces Journal, a monthly magazine for officers and leaders in the United States military community, retired Major Ralph Peters sets out the latest ideas in current US strategic thinking. And they are extremely disturbing.

Obscene policy on flying Print E-mail

It really annoys me that the UK government is trying to expand the airline industry as much as they can, hiding the fact that UK Taxpayers are effectively subsidising airlines to the tune of £300 per person every year [1]. The UK airline industry receives an effective subsidy of £9.2 billion a year [2] because airlines pay no tax on fuel used, virtually no VAT and benefit from duty free. Other taxes such as income tax therefore have to be higher to subsidise the aviation industry.

General Election Time! Print E-mail

It's appraching... the general election is scheduled for 5th May 2005. But how will you vote?

Steve, a colleague, sent me a link to Who Should You Vote For? Go on, try it out!

There seem to be a lack of questions relating to ethical or environmental issues though, such as international trading, recycling, incineration, GM food, public transport, so I think it would be very hard for the site to suggest someone should vote Green. Climate change is the biggest threat to the world... perhaps many people don't get the importance of it. Anyway, if these issues are important to you and the site suggested you'd vote Liberal Democrat, please think again!

Airport pledge Print E-mail

Aviation is the fastest growing source of the greenhouse gas emissions which are fuelling devastating climate change effects, poses the single greatest threat to human civilisation as we know it.

Did you know that air fares are artifically low, as aircraft fuel is tax exempt? Tony Blair has been trying to sound tough on the effects of climate change recently, but was eager to be seen at the launch party of the latest super jumbo plane by Airbus. Hundreds of these planes will be built, each carrying up to 800 people. The tax payer will pay the real cost though - through subsidising ticket prices and having to clean up the emissions - before it's too late?

I urge anyone else concerned about airport expansion to join me by visiting this site and taking the pledge themselves.
